You may have noticed a large digger and dumper truck at the far end of the field at Slamseys if you’ve walked along the bridleway that runs from the Country Park to Blackley Lane.
In September, an archaelogical team dug trenches in two fields, known as Little Forest and Great Forest Field, where evidence was found of Iron Age and Roman activity.
A larger area is now being stripped back as part of a more detailed archaeological survey. It’s amazing to think that so much history is beneath our feet, which we know nothing about until the layers are removed.
